Genius Korea: International Women's Day: Female Songwriters in K-Pop

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a day to celebrate women’s achievements but also spread awareness and advocate for equality and issues surrounding women. Today, we would like to highlight 10 iconic female songwriters in K-Pop that have and still are shaping the Korean music industry through their contribution. This list is subjective and not ranked. While there are countless hard-working female songwriters working in the Korean music industry, these 10 names were collected from the popular opinion of the Genius Korea Community.   Cloud , real name Koh Hyung-Seok (Korean: 고형석; born April 6, 1991), is a multi-instrumentalist and prolific musician who has been working on the Korean music scene since 2010. Koh started his career as a keyboardist for the band Bye Bye Badman and a member of CHEEZE and has worked alongside K-pop soloist Yerin Baek since her debut album  Frank . Koh has also produced tracks for many well-known Korean artists such as Chungha, Giriboy, B1A4, Car, the garden, and more. In 2021, Cloud signed with Blue Vinyl, and released his first album under the label,  With a lot of exaggeration . Thirty-year-old Cloud, whose real name is Koh Hyung-seok and stage name in Korean is Gureum, started his career as a keyboard player in rock band Bye Bye Badman in 2011. He then formed indie band Cheeze with singer Dalchong before parting ways to work on his own. He mostly worked with singer Baek Ye-rin, producing her songs, then formed the band The Volunteers with Baek, Johnny Kwak and Kimchiheon in 2018. Cl

Love me like that (Sam Kim)

  Sam Kim  ( Korean :  샘김 ; born February 19, 1998) is a  Korean-American  singer-songwriter, producer and guitarist. “Love Me Like That” is Sam Kim’s heavenly contribution to the original soundtrack for Korean romance drama  Nevertheless . Many fans who heard the song in the drama were anticipating its official release to streaming platforms, which happened a month after the first episode was released. The song is telling of both characters in the drama, who have troubles with love, as indicated in the first verse and the pre-choruses of the song.
